Older Infant 2
The Infant 1 & Infant 2 classrooms are both young infant classrooms. They are the same class...we just have two of them! Children range in age from 6 weeks to about 8-10 months old, depending on development.
Children are on their own schedule of feeding and sleeping
Children sleep in their crib
Children sit in high chairs when they are ready for solid foods
Your child's teachers will work closely with our Education Coach in observing and evaluating your child's development. When they believe your child is ready to move to the next class they will notice one or more signs such as:
Crawling/Army crawling
Holding their own bottle and eating solid foods
Pulling up to stand
They will begin to look at the class lists to see if/when there is space in the Older Infant class and begin planning and communicating your child's transition.
Once our infants begin to become mobile (crawling, pulling up to stand, and sometimes walking) it's time to move them to a more developmentally appropriate classroom. Children in the Older Infant room range in age from 8-15 months old, depending on development. This is a transitional class that prepares children for the toddler program, meaning your child may only be in this classroom for a few months.
Children begin to work towards a classroom schedule and usually begin napping twice a day, with a morning and afternoon nap.
Children begin to work towards a breakfast, snack, and lunch schedule.
When children are close to 12 months, they will begin practicing napping on a cot.
At your child's 12 month doctor's appointment, you will want to discuss your child's transition from breast milk or formula to cow's milk. We will begin to work with you to transition your child to cow's milk during their school day with the goal of completing this transition by 13 months.
Again, your child's teachers and the Education Coach will evaluate your child's development. As long as your child is developmentally on track and is at least 12 months old, they will begin to look at the class lists to see if/when there is space in the Toddler class and begin planning and communicating your child's transition.
